Women’s Basketball Takes on Villanova Wednesday Night

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team (3-5) hosts the Villanova Wildcats (5-5) on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. inside the Bob Carpenter Center.

ABOUT THE HENS
- Delaware comes into Wednesday on a two-game winning streak, beating Evansville and Delaware State.
- On Saturday, Delaware held it down defensively to earn its third win of the season over Delaware State. Winning 73-26, the point tally was the fourth fewest in program history. The Blue Hens allowed two points in the first quarter, marking the fewest in school history, and 10 points against in the first half tied the lowest in the history of the Bob Carpenter Center for a women's game, with the last coming on Feb. 3, 2017, against UNCW. Altogether, Delaware held its opponent under 30 points for the first time since Jan. 10, 2013, when it allowed 27 points against George Mason.
- Chloe Wilson has recorded a double-double in back-to-back games for the Blue Hens. Against Evansville in New Orleans, Wilson tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds. The 5-11 forward then scored 13 points to go along with 12 rebounds to lead the team against Delaware State, marking her 18th career double-double.
- Rebecca Demeke led UD with 21 points and four steals with five makes from beyond the arc in the win over Delaware State. It was a career day for Demeke, marking new bests in points and steals. The fifth-year Canadian is tied for the team lead in scoring per game with Ande'a Cherisier at 11.5 ppg.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
- Head coach Denise Dillon is in her fifth season at the helm of the Wildcats after 17 years behind the bench of Drexel.
- Tiara Malcom, who was inducted into the Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012, makes her return to the 302 as an assistant coach for Villanova. A three-time all-conference selection, she was named the CAA Player of the Year as a senior in 2005 when she averaged a league-best 15.5 points per game and pulled 6.8 rebounds per contest. She also was selected as the 2005 University of Delaware Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Malcom returned to UD as an assistant coach in 2006, serving on the Blue Hens staff for nine seasons. During her tenure as an assistant coach, the Blue Hens advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice, in 2007 and 2012, and captured the 2012 CAA Tournament title with a 31-2 record and a No. 7 national ranking.
- Villanova is cautious with the basketball, only turning it over 12.7 times per game, good for 23rd in the nation.
- The Cats also earn their points at the charity stripe, knocking in 77-percent of their free throw attempts, which puts them at 25th in the country.
- The player to watch for Villanova is Jasmine Bascoe, who paces the team in scoring and assists with 15.5 points per game and 4.7 assists per game. She's no slouch on the defensive end, swiping two steals per game to lead the team.
