Men’s Basketball Halted Against Charleston

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team fell to Charleston 90-71 Thursday night at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Blue Hens fall to 17-11 and 9-6 in CAA play, while the Cougars improved to 21-7 and 12-3 in conference action.

HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Gerald Drumgoole Jr. led all Delaware' scorers with 14 points for his fifth-straight game in double figures.
- Jyáre Davis tallied 13 points.
- Jalun Trent recorded 12 points and tied his career mark with three steals.
- Christian Ray registered his sixth double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 boards. He was a perfect 5-for-5 from the stripe.
- The Cougars began the night's scoring with a layup from Kobe Rogers and after Davis connected from beyond the arc, the back-and-forth contest ensued. At the 14:49 mark Cavan Reilly sank a corner trey on a Trent assist to give the Hens a 10-8 lead, but Charleston responded right away to knot the game at 10. At the under 12 media timeout, the Cougars held a 17-14 edge, but four-straight Delaware points put the Hens back ahead. Back-to-back threes from Drumgoole Jr. gave UD a 26-22 lead with 7:14 left, but by the 5:58 mark the game was knotted at 26 apiece. With 4:23 left before the break, Charleston's Ben Burnham knocked down a three pointer, sparking a 15-8 Cougars' run to end the half and sending Delaware to the locker room trailing 43-36.
- The two squads continued to trade blows in the second half, but the Cougars' halftime lead was insurmountable for the Hens as it ballooned to 23 points with 2:08 left in regulation.
- Delaware came into Thursday night's contest tied with Charleston and Hofstra as the only CAA teams with a 5-1 record in February.
- The Hens fall to 5-2 on Thursdays after winning five straight.
- Charleston's 90 points are the most surrendered by the Hens this season.
