Women's Basketball Hosts UNCW On Friday And Heads To Towson Sunday

NEWARK, Del. | TOWSON, Md. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team remains in the First State Friday evening and will play hosts to UNCW, one of two regular-seaosn meetings, inside Bob Carpenter Center. Friday's tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live simultaneously on FloHoops and Delmarva Sports Network.

- Ande'a Cherisier followed with 13 points and four rebounds.

- Chloe Wilson ranks fourth in free throw attempts (116) and fifth in free throws (85).
- Sitting in sixth in their respective categories are Sydney Boone (assist/turnover ratio, 1.33) and Klarke Sconiers (blocks, 28; blocks per game 1.17).
- Both Tara Cousins and Rebecca Demeke both sit in ninth place among the conference leaders in three pointers per game (1.78).
- The last time out for Delaware was on Friday, Feb. 23 when the Blue Hens welcomed UNCW inside Bob Carpenter Center.
- The Blue Hens closed out its February home slate in such dominant fashion, walking away with the 73-35 win behind another stellar performance by Demeke.
- Demeke led all scorers again, this time with a career-best 20 points with another 6-8 performance from beyond the arc, tying her career-high. The senior added four rebounds, three assists and three steals to her stat line.
- Klarke Sconiers neared a double-double with her 10-point, nine-rebound, four-block performance.
- Cherisier added herself to the mix with nine points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
- UNCW will enter Friday's matchup sporting a 5-18 record and a 3-9 mark in league play.
- The Seahawks' last time out was last Sunday, Feb. 18 at home against Charleston where UNCW dropped a 97-58 decision to the Cougars.
- Taylor Henderson paced UNCW with 24 points, seven rebounds and two steals while Kylah Silver poured in 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

- Towson enters the weekend sporting a 14-9 record and a 6-6 mark in league play prepared to play at Hampton on Friday before heading back home to host the Blue Hens on Sunday.
- On Friday, the Tigers captured a 78-65 road win over Hampton behind a balanced scoring effort by the squad.
- Alexia Nelson led the way for the Tigers with 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Patricia Anumgba had 18 points on 6-of-12 (50%) shooting, going 4-of-6 (66.7%) from behind the arc.
- In 13 CAA games played, Towson captured its seven victories over Elon, Hampton, William & Mary, Charleston, Stony Brook on the road, Drexel and Hampton but suffered six losses to North Carolina A&T, Stony Brook at home, Campbell, Delaware, Monmouth and Hofstra.
- Towson, the 2023 CAA tournament finalist was selected as the favorite to win the conference championship with Kornegay-Lucas being selected as the Preseason Player of the Year while earning a spot on the first team. Quinzia Fulmore also landed on the preseason honorable mention.
vs. UNCW
- This will be the 46th all-time meeting, the 39th meeting in conference play and the first time head coaches Sarah Jenkins and Nicole Woods will be meeting since taking the reigns of their respective programs.
- Delaware holds the 35-10 record while sporting a 19-3 mark in Newark.
- The Blue Hens have won eight of the last 10 matchups and currently are on a seven-game winning streak against the Seahawks.
- This will be one of two regular-season meetings between the two programs.
- The last time Delaware and UNCW met was last season on Feb. 10, 2023 inside Bob Carpenter Center.
- Delaware walked away with the commanding 83-47 home victory with five Blue Hens scoring in double figures.
- Michelle Ojo finished with 14 points and six rebounds, Nakiyah Mays-Price (four steals, four rebounds, four assists) and Cousins (seven rebounds, six assists) poured in 11 points each.
- Demeke chipped in 10 points off the bench.
- This will be the 90th time in program history Delaware and Towson will duke it out against one another with the Blue Hens holding the 63-26 record, 54-19 CAA record and a 29-13 mark inside SECU Arena.
- Delaware snapped its two-game skid to the Tigers earlier this season, now winning seven of its last 10 matchups.
- This will also be head coaches Jenkins and Laura Harper third fourth facing one another since taking over their respective programs.
- Delaware and Towson last met on Jan. 28, 2024 inside Bob Carpenter Center where the Blue Hens walked away with the dominating 73-59 win. The rookie in Cherisier led all scorers with a new career high of 21 points (5-of-12 FG, 11-of-12 FT), grabbed seven rebounds, five of which were offensive, and was credited with an assist. Her performance in this game helped earn her CAA Rookie of the Week.
- The last time Delaware and Towson met inside SECU Arena was during the 2022-23 season, where the Tigers once again escaped with the narrow 67-65 win over the Blue Hens.
- Sconiers scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds and blocked four shots, while Mays-Prince scored 12 points (3-7 FG, 5-6 FT), with 10 of her points coming in the second half.
- Delaware's last time victorious in Towson against the Tigers was during the 2021-22 season, claiming 85-71 road win on March 3, 2022, the season where the Blue Hens hoisted up its third CAA trophy.
