NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football team's departing seniors were honored on Friday night at the annual Blue Hen Touchdown Club Senior Awards banquet at Delaware's Clayton Hall. The 22 senior student-athletes, as well as the senior interns for football operations, equipment, sports analytics and nutrition were all recognized, and the TD Club presented its annual awards.
The evening started with opening remarks from Touchdown Club President Russ Crook as well as Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Chriss Rawak and Head Football Coach Ryan Carty. Following a tasty dinner, the awards portion of the evening began with Delaware's lone senior captain – Chase McGowan – being presented with the Captains Award.
Jourdan Townsend was honored as the Outstanding Offensive Player after leading the Blue Hens with 49 catches for 661 yards in 2023. He earned All-CAA honors at both wide receiver (third team) and punt returner (second team). He had a career-high 122 receiving yards and a score in a win over then-No. 11 New Hampshire and also had touchdown grabs against North Carolina A&T and Campbell.
McGowan and Jackson Taylor took home Co-Outstanding Defensive Players honors. Taylor led the Blue Hens with 116 total tackles, becoming the 36th player in program history to record 100 tackles in a single season. He also finished with 13.0 TFLs and 3.5 sacks to go along with nine quarterback hurries. McGowan led the defense with both 16.0 TFLs and 7.0 sacks while finishing with 47 total tackles and 12 quarterback hurries.
Ryan Kost claimed Outstanding Special Teams Player honors after averaging 43.5 yards per punt on 38 punts. He pinned UD's opponents inside their own 20-yard line on seven occasions and had nine punts over at least 50 yards. His 76-yard kick at Hampton was the seventh-longest punt in program history, and the longest since 1996.
Chandler Harvin and McGowan took home positional awards as Outstanding End and Outstanding Lineman, respectively. Despite missing three games with injury, Harvin caught 25 passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns, including two scores at Montana in the second round of the FCS playoffs. McGowan finished a decorated career with 110 tackles over five seasons with 40.0 TFLs and 22.0 sacks, earning four All-CAA honors.
Braden Brose was honored as UD's Unsung Hero after finishing third on the team with 27 catches and fourth with 364 receiving yards. He caught five touchdown passes, including two in Delaware's 36-34 comeback victory over Lafayette in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
Taylor was also presented with the Newark Elks Club Award, honoring the top scholar-athlete in the senior class, while McGowan claimed the Taylor Memorial Award, given each year since 1948 to a senior who made outstanding contributions to the program throughout his career.
