Costaro Earns Second Straight CAA Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. - University of Delaware freshman Gianna Costaro was named CAA Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. This is Costaro's second straight CAA Rookie of the Week honor and third CA A weekly award.Â
Costaro hit .417/.500/.750 in a 4-0 week against Morgan State and North Carolina A&T, going 5-for-12 with a home run, a double, and nine RBIs. She hit a two-run double to tie the game in the sixth inning against N.C. A&T on Saturday to help lead a comeback, and hit a grand slam as part of a six-RBI day on Sunday. She had two multi-hit games in the week. Her six RBIs on Sunday were a new career-high and tied Sydney Shaffer for the most by a Delaware player this season. It is also tied for the sixth most in a game in program history and she became the 11th UD player all-time with at least six RBIs in a game.
For the season, Costaro is hitting .386/.533/.789 with a team-leading six home runs and 23 RBIs. She also has five doubles, 20 runs scored, and 14 walks. Costaro has five multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games this season. She currently leads the CAA in home runs, on base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, total bases, and RBIs. She also ranks fourth in average, fifth in runs, and second in walks. She has paced a Delaware offense that leads the conference in average, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, on base percentage, and slugging percentage.Â
Costaro was also named conference Player of the Week on Feb. 27 in addition to last week's Rookie of the Week. Delaware has earned a CAA weekly award in five consecutive weeks, as Chloe Blantz and Morgan Hess earned Player of the Week honors on Feb. 20 and March 5. Delaware is the only team with five CAA weekly award winners this season.Â
