Track & Field Opens Spring Season Strong at Fred Hardy Invitational

RICHMOND, Va.. – The University of Delaware track & field team opened up the outdoor season on Friday, competing at the Fred Hardy Invitational, hosted by the University of Richmond. Across 15 total events, the Blue Hens finished with two wins, four podiums and nine top-five finishes.
HENS HIGHLIGHTS
- Carolyn Coletti started the day for UD as she set a new PR in the steeplechase, finishing in 12:09.63
- Marissa Dailey also recorded a new personal best with a 4:40.74 in the 1,500 meters.
- In the 100-meter hurdles, Alicia Lehman and Jayde McDermid finished seventh and eighth, respectively, as McDermid surpassed a personal best clocking in at 15.19 seconds.
- Ava Scheive lowered her PR by more than three seconds as she crossed the finish line in 1:01.34 in the 400 meters.
- Jacquelyn Rolle made her collegiate outdoor debut and reached the podium in the 100 meters. She finished in 12.45 seconds to place third, just ahead of teammate Taylor Johnson who was fifth in 12.50 seconds.
- Lauren Leath also had a strong first outdoor meet, placing fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.29.
- Stephanie Herrera improved her personal best by nearly 90 seconds in the 5,000 meters, clocking a 17:38.62 to finish fourth.
- The 4x400 relay team of Jenna Scandale, Lehman, Alexa Dougherty and Leath crossed the finish line in fourth with a time of 3:54.81
- Kosie Nkwonta won the shot put with a heave of 12.81 meters on her first throw.
- In the triple jump, Jahnia Hodge placed third with a mark of 11.24 meters.
- Bridget Joyce also had a top-five finish in the pole vault, finishing fourth with a vault of 3.50 meters.
- Rachel Schmitt won her first collegiate outdoor event, throwing the javelin 39.10 meters, nearly three meters farther than any other opponent.
- Madison Shaffery just missed out on a PR as she cleared 1.55 meters in the high jump to place fourth.
- A jump of 5.42 meters placed Lehman in the top five in the long jump.
UP NEXT
Delaware will return to the track later next week as the Blue Hens will travel to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays, hosted by N.C. State. The three-day meet will take place March 28-30.
