Women’s Basketball Sweeps Regular Season Series Against UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of Delaware women's basketball headed down to Wilmington, N.C. Thursday evening ready to face UNCW for the second time this season. The Blue Hens (11-18, 7-10 CAA) returned to the winning column after capturing a dominating 81-51 road win over the Seahawks (5-23, 3-14).

First Quarter: UNCW 19, Delaware 14
The Blue Hens will close out the regular season on Saturday, March 9, in Charleston, S.C. set to face Charleston inside TD Arena. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on FloHoops.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Leading the way for the Blue Hens was Nakiyah Mays Prince. She tied her career high with 14 points (6-of-9 FG, 2-of-3 3 FG), had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
- Mays-Prince was one of four players, along with Tara Cousins (13 points, 6-of-11 FG), Chloe Wilson (6-of-9 FG, nine rebounds, three steals) and Sydney Boone (12 points, 5-of-9 FG, 2-of-4 3 FG, two assists, two steals) in double figures.
- Grace Sundback added six points, grabbed four rebounds, and led the team in assists with four.
- Delaware finished the evening shooting 54.5 percent (36-of-66) from the field, 30 percent (6-of-20) from beyond the arc and 60 percent (3-of-5) from the free throw line.
- In the second half, UD shot 65.8 percent (25-of-38) from the floor.
- The Blue Hens held a +19 rebound margin, 46-27, scoring eight second-chance points off nine offensive boards.
- The Blue & Gold finished with 18 assists, four blocks, 12 steals, scored 46 points in the paint, 19 fastbreak points, 36 bench points and scored 20 points off of 21 Seahawk turnovers.
First Quarter: UNCW 19, Delaware 14
- CAA Rookie of the Week Taylor Henderson opened the game's scoring 16 seconds in to give UNCW the early 2-0 lead.
- Both Cousins and Ande'a Cherisier knocked down jumpers to give Delaware the 4-2 advantage before the Seahawks responded with an 8-0 spurt to regain the advantage, 10-4.
- A Mays-Prince jumper at the 3:21 mark got the Blue Hens within four points, 14-10 before UNCW scored five unanswered points to build a nine-point cushion, 19-10, with 2:09 remaining.
- With 25 seconds left, Cousins' routine jumper trimmed Delaware's deficit to five heading into the second period, 19-14.
- In a low-scoring 10-7 period, advantage Delaware, the Blue Hens was able to make it a 24-all game thanks to a Sundback triple at the 1:48 mark.
- Mary Ferrito drained a jumper as the time was expiring for the Seahawks to take the 26-24 into the break.
- With 9:13 showing on the third-quarter clock, Evan Miller connected from deep for UNCW to take its last lead of the night, 29-26.
- At the 8:09 mark, Mays-Prince's tough defense leading to an easy layup ignited a 10–2 Delaware run to build the double-digit lead, 42-31
- In the remaining 19 seconds of the frame, Mays-Prince would go and knock in a jumper for Delaware to build the quarter-high 14 point lead, 50-36, heading into the final period.
- The Blue Hens did not relinquish their double-digit point lead, and would grow their lead to a game-high 30 points, outscoring the Seahawks 31-15 in the final frame to settle the 81-51.
- Miller paced UNCW with 18 points and three rebounds while Henderson added 13 points and eight rebounds.
- This is the Blue Hens' fourth 80+ point scoring game on the season.
- Delaware completed the regular season series sweep over UNCW
- With the win, the Blue & Gold remain tied for ninth place with Elon in league standings with the final regular season game left on Saturday.
