Softball's Game Against Charleston Suspended In Fifth Inning, Leading 8-6

NEWARK, Del. -Â University of Delaware softball had their game against Charleston suspended due to inclement weather in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Blue Hens leading 8-6. Play will resume tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
Charleston took a 5-0 ledd after the top of the fourth inning. Delaware began to rally in the bottom of the inning, as Katie Scheivert hit a sacrifice fly and Maddie Fife followed it up with a two-run home run. Fife's home run was her second as a Blue Hen and Delaware's first at home this season.Â
Charleston scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-3 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Shaffer and Costaro worked back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Boyet had an RBI single to bring home Jenna Giattino, who had pinch ran, and Hess walked to load the bases. Scheivert and Fife both worked bases-loaded walks to tie the game. Diomede gave Delaware the lead after being hit by a pitch, and then Sheivert scored the inning's fifth run on a wild pitch before play was halted.Â
