Blue Hens Capture First Liberty Bell Classic Championship Since 2013

PHILADELPHIA -Â The University of Delaware baseball team captures the Liberty Bell Classic Championship by a score of 18-2 on Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park in a seven inning contest.Â
With the win, the Blue Hens overall record improves to 17-14. In addition, it is the first time the Blue Hens won the LBC Championship since 2013, and their eighth all time.

The Blue Hens had four individuals who had multiple hits, Bryce Greenly (2-for-3, HR, RBI, 2B), Eric Ludman (2-for-2, HR, 3 RBI, 2 HBP), Chris Dengler (2-for-3, RBI) and Aidan Kane (2-for-5, RBI).

Starting on the mound for UD was Dom Velazquez. He pitched in two innings, allowed no runs, no hits and struck out three batters. He was credited with the win and is now 2-0 on the season. In relief was Ethan Shaub, Nate Rolka, Carter Welch, Eli Atiya, Owen Margolis and Anthony Gubitosi. The six pitchers went 5 innings, allowed two earned runs off four hits, walked two batters and struck out four.

Chris Dengler got the offense going in the top of the first with an RBI single.Â

The offense stayed hot as Eric Ludman hit a two-run home run in the top of the thirdÂ

The Blue Hens offense did their most damage in the top of the fourth where they scored 11 runs. The rally started with a Tyler Leach single, followed by a three run home run by Brett Lesher, a solo home run from Bryce Greenly, a two run home run by Joey Loynd, a Leach sacrifice fly, a Kane RBI single, and a Ludman and Loynd hit by pitch.Â

In addition, UD added four more runs in the top of the sixth.
