Hess, Boyet Lead Softball Past Towson for Program Record 19th Conference Win

TOWSON, Md. - University of Delaware softball defeated Towson, 7-1, for their 19th conference win to set a new program record. Morgan Hess earned the win and recorded her 100th career RBI on a three-run home run.Â

- Hess pitched seven innings and allowed no runs on two hits, and also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a three-run home run and scored two runs.Â
- Julia Boyet went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and RBI triple.Â
- Katie Scheivert went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two doubles.
- Chloe Blantz went 1-for-3 with a double, run scored, stolen base, and a walk.Â
- Lillie Scheivert went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.Â
- Sydney Shaffer walked three times.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Towson scored their only run in the first inning, but Hess came on in relief and escaped a second and third, no-out jam.Â
- Hess then stranded a leadoff double in the second inning.Â
- In the top of the third, Boyet tied the game with a home run to center field. Boyet then helped end the bottom half of the inning by turning a 5-5-3 double play.Â
- Delaware took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Lillie Scheivert walked and Hess singled before both were bunted over. Katie Scheivert drove home her sister on a sacrifice fly and Boyet tripled in Hess to put Delaware up 3-1.Â
- Hess ended a hitless fourth inning with a strikeout. In the top of the fifth inning, Blantz doubled and Lillie Scheivert walked ahead of Hess, who hit a three run to give Delaware a 6-1 lead.Â
- Hess retired the side in order in the bottom of the fifth and sixth. In the seventh, she singled and Katie Scheivert doubled her in to put Delaware up 7-1.Â
- Towson drew a one-out walk in the seventh but a double play turned by Blantz sealed the game.Â
GAME NOTES
- Delaware won their 19th conference game of the season, setting a new program record. They previously won 18 in 2023 and 2000.Â
- Delaware tied their single season record for most wins in a season with 36, last done in 2000.Â
- Delaware also tied James Madison (2018, 2015) and Hofstra (2012, 2011) for second most CAA wins by a CAA team in a season. The 2019 James Madison team currently holds the record with 19.
- Boyet's home run was her third of the season and fourth of her career. Boyet's five triples are the most for a Delaware player since Hanna Garber had five in 2022.Â
- Boyet has a hit in seven straight games. She is hitting .545/.583/.864 during the streak with five RBIs and five extra base hits. She is also hitting .455/.500/.758 since April 9 with five multi-hit games in 11 games. Her three-hit game today was her first of the season.Â
- Boyet's seven-game hitting streak is the second longest by a Delaware player this season. Julz Garber had an 11-game hitting streak earlier this year.
- Hess drove in her 100th career run on her three-run home run.Â
- Hess recorded her third game since Saturday with at least seven innings pitched and zero runs allowed. She has also won 10 straight decisions. She has a 1.48 ERA since Feb. 24, a span of 17 games and 85.1 innings pitched.Â
- Katie Scheivert extended her season-best hitting streak to six. She is hitting .370/.386/.481 since March 29.Â
- Lillie Scheivert is hitting .333/.474/.600 in her last eight games dating back to April 10.
- Blantz's double was her 10th of the season, giving Delaware three players with at least 10 doubles this season (Hess, and Shaffer 14). Delaware is the only CAA team with three players with at least 10 doubles so far this season.
