LUBBOCK, Texas. – Delaware shortstop Brett Lesher was named to the 2024 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, the College Baseball Foundation announced. The award is presented annually to the nation's top shortstop.
Lesher joins 99 other shortstops across Division I baseball to be named to the list. The award is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played shortstop for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980.
The redshirt junior is having a career year. He leads the team in batting average at .317 (min. 2 plate appearances and 75 percent games played), second in hits with 45, has six home runs, 38 RBI's, an on base percentage of .340, and an OPS of .840.
This past weekend at Towson, Lesher went 7-for-14 with two home runs and three RBI's to help the Blue Hens sweep the Tigers.
The Blue Hens have landed an athlete on the Brooks Wallace Watch List in back to back seasons, as JJ Freeman made an appearance on the list in 2023.
UD has four straight home games, starting tomorrow against George Washington at 6:30 p.m. and has a three game series against Monmouth from May 3-5.
