Baseball Clinched Four Seed in CAA Tournament, Splits Doubleheader with UNCW

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware baseball team split a pair of games with UNCW on Friday at Bob Hannah Stadium.Â
The Blue Hens took game one 5-4 and dropped game two 8-5.
With the results, the Blue Hens overall record is 29-24, 16-11 in Coastal Athletic Association play and have clinched the four seed.Â
HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Ethan Shaub started game one for the Blue Hens. He pitched 4.1 innings, allowed three runs off eight hits, walked and struck out two batters. Carter Welch pitched the next four innings, allowed one run off two hits, walked three and struck out one batter. Elias Conway and Wyatt Nelson pitched the final 0.2 innings. Nelson was credited with the win.

Tyler Leach led the Blue Hens in game one, going 2-for-4 and driving in a run. He had two of UD's five hits in the game.Â

Christian Colmery started game two of the doubleheader. He pitched three innings, allowed four earned runs off three hits, struck out and walked three batters. Tyler Strechay, Nate Rola and Owen Margolis. Strechay pitched two innings, gave up two runs off four hits and struck out two hitters. Rolka pitched 3.1 innings, allowed just one run and struck out seven batters. Margolis pitched the final 0.2 innings.

Bryce Greenly had multiple hits, and Eric Ludman, Joey Loynd, Aidan Kane and Tyler August recorded hits in game two.Â
GAME ONE

The Blue Hens jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a solo home run from Bryce Greenly in the bottom of the first.

Over the next four innings, the Seahawks drove in four runs and took a 4-1 lead headed into the bottom of the seventh.

UD eventually tied the game at 4-4 with a three run seventh inning. Tyler Leach and Aidan Stewart drove in runs off singles to make it 4-3. Joey Loynd was walked with the bases loaded and drove in Tanner Donati to tie the game.Â

The Seahawks walked in the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Aaron Graeber was at bat and Jake Dunion scored.
GAME TWO

UNCW rallied off six runs over the game's first five innings.Â

Eric Ludman cut the Seahawks lead in half with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3.

Kane and August hit solo home runs to make it an 8-5 game and the Blue Hens had bases loaded with one out. But a lineout to the Seahawks second baseman forced a double play and ended the game

The Blue Hens have clinched the four seed in the CAA tournament and will play the five seed on Wednesday, May 22 at noon in Wilmington, N.C. The seeding for the final two spots will be decided tomorrow.
