Strong Offensive Start and Quality Pitching Led Baseball to 7-3 Win over William & Mary in CAA Tournament

NEWARK, Del. - A strong start from the offense, along with quality pitching led No. 4 seed University of Delaware Baseball program to a 7-3 win over No. 5 seed William & Mary in the Coastal Athletic Association tournament on Wednesday, May 22.

With the win, the Blue Hens advance to the winners bracket and will either play No. 2 seed UNCW tomorrow at 7 p.m. Their overall record is now 30-24.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Offensively, the Blue Hens were led by Aiden Stewart, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a single, double and home run. Stewart, along with Aidan Kane (2-for-3) had multiple hits
Starting on the mound was Doug Marose. He had a strong outing, pitching in six innings, gave up two runs (one earned), allowed five hits, walked one batter and struck out three. In relief was Eli Atiya, who pitched the final three innings, allowed one earned run, two hits, walked two batters and struck out three. Marose was credited with the win and is now 4-2. Atiya earned his third save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Hens opened up the first inning with five runs. The rally started with a Joey Loynd double, scoring Bryce Greenly. In the next at bat, Aaron Graeber hit a three-run home run to extend the Blue Hen lead. The rally was capped off with a solo home run and took a 5-0 lead.
The Tribe chipped away at the Blue Hen lead and scored runs in the fourth and sixth innings to make it 5-2.
A clutch two-run double from Brett Lesher extended the Blue Hen lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the eighth
