NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware baseball team defeated Monmouth 16-5 on Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium.

With the win, the Blue Hens overall record improved to 25-21 and 12-9 in Coastal Athletic Association play.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Five Blue Hens recorded multiple hits today, Eric Ludman (2-for-3, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 BB), Aaron Graeber (2-for-4, BB), Chris Dengler (2-for-3, RBI), Tyler Leach (2-for-4, 5 RBI, 2 BB), and Andrew Amato (2-for-3, RBI)
Starting on the mound was Dom Velazquez. He went 2.1 innings, allowed two earned runs off four hits, walked one batter and struck out two. In relief were Carter Welch, Elias Conway, Tyler Strechay and Wyatt Nelson.
Welch and Conway pitched 0.2 innings, allowed two unearned runs off two hits and walked a batter. Strechay pitched 5 shutout innings, allowed three hits and struck out two batters. He was credited with the win and is now 4-0 on the season. Nelson pitched the final inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Hens got out to a 3-0 in the bottom of the first with a two-run Ludman, and an RBI infield single from Leach.
The Hawks eventually caught up with the Blue Hens and tied the game at 4-4.
The UD offense took off with a seven run bottom of the sixth inning. The rally started with a three-run home run from Ludman, followed by a Chris Dengler single, scoring Joey Loynd, and a bases-clearing three-run double from Tyler Leach.
UD added five insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to strengthen its lead.
