UD Alum Michaela Meyer Set for US Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. -Â The University of Delaware's track & field team proudly announces that alumna Michaela Meyer '20 will compete in the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus from Friday, June 21 through Sunday, June 30.
Meyer, a standout distance runner for the Blue Hens from 2016 to 2020, primarily competed in the 800m event. She earned a bronze medal at the 2019 CAA Outdoor Championships with a time of 2:09.26 and contributed to the program's second CAA championship that year. Meyer's impressive season continued as she made her first appearance at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Rounds, finishing 33rd with a time of 2:07.87. During her time at Delaware, she set the indoor 800m school record with a time of 2:03.40 and achieved a lifetime outdoor best of 2:07.02, the second fastest in school history. Meyer graduated with a bachelor's degree in Applied Nutrition before transferring to the University of Virginia for graduate studies. As a Cavalier, she was crowned the 800m national champion at the 2021 NCAA Track & Field Championships with a collegiate lifetime best of 2:00.28. Meyer went on to graduate and now competes professionally for Nike.
Meyer's Olympic journey begins today with the 800m Round 1 at 7:17 p.m. ET / 4:17 p.m. PT, available for viewing on Peacock. The Southbury, Conn. native aims to advance through the following stages (*all times in Eastern Time):

ABOUT THE TRIALS
Track and field at the 2024 Olympic Games will take place August 1-11 and include nearly 50 medal events. Aside from the marathon and race-walking competitions, track and field events will be competed at the Stade de France, located in the city of Saint-Denis, just north of Paris.
At the 2020 Olympic Games, 95% of U.S. track and field athletes (122 of 128 athletes) competed collegiately.
During the 2020 Olympic Games, Team USA track and field athletes earned 26 total medals, topping the track and field medal table by more than double. In total, U.S. track and field athletes took home seven golds, 13 silvers and seven bronze medals.Â
The full Team USA roster for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be confirmed in July.
