NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware Head Men's Basketball Coach Martin Ingelsby has made three changes to his staff, it was announced Monday. Ingelsby promoted long-time operations staffer Danny O'Connor to assistant coach and Stephen Galgano from assistant director to director of operations. The Hens also welcome Christian Nunez as assistant coach/director of player development.
"It's an honor to be able to move Danny up to an assistant coaching position this year," Ingelsby said. "He is a rising star in our coaching profession, and no one is more deserving of this promotion than him. He brings great energy and passion to his role every day and has done a fabulous job connecting with our student-athletes. I am excited for him to continue to develop as an on-court coach and hit the ground running on the recruiting trail."
O'Connor has been at Delaware since 2016-17, spending five seasons as coordinator of player development/videography and the last three as director of men's basketball operations. He's played an integral role in the program's success the past eight years, including claiming the CAA Championship in 2022.
"I am grateful to have the opportunity to be an assistant coach here at the University of Delaware," O'Connor said. "I am thankful to Coach Ingelsby and Director of Athletics, Community, and Campus Recreation Chrissi Rawak for giving me the opportunity to lead our student-athletes in this new role. I have enjoyed the journey we have been on to build this program and am eager to continue to push Delaware basketball to new heights."
Galgano returned to his alma mater last season as the assistant director of men's basketball operations. He had previously served as a student manager as an undergraduate student for the Hens.
"I'm thrilled for Stephen to be able to move up to the director of basketball operations role," Ingelsby said. "His experience working alongside Danny O'Connor last year and his years as a manager for our program will make this a seamless transition. He will manage all of our day-to-day operations within the program, while also assisting with the on-court coaching & player development."
Prior to returning to Newark, he spent time at both Bryant and Marshall.
"I am honored to assume the director of men's basketball operations role and to work with a talented staff and student-athletes," Galgano said. "I look forward to contributing to the continued development, growth, and success of the program."
Nunez joins the Blue Hens after spending the previous three and a half years at Saint Louis University as an assistant coach/director of player development. During his tenure with the Billikens, the team made a pair of NIT appearances after falling in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals.
"We are very excited to announce the addition of Christian Nunez to our coaching staff," Ingelsby said. "He comes highly recommended as an elite player development coach and his years of experience on the staff at Saint Louis have prepared him for this opportunity. He worked closely with Coach Travis Ford on all aspect of their offense, and I look forward to him bringing new ideas and concepts to our offensive system here. He will also greatly assist us with his recruiting connections and relationships throughout the country."
A native of White Plains, New York, Nunez has had extensive coaching experience in his hometown. Most recently, he was assistant varsity basketball coach at Iona Preparatory High School while also serving as a coaching/teaching assistant at White Plains High School. In his first season at Iona Prep, the team won the New York City Catholic High School Athletic Association with a 10-2 league record and an overall record of 21-7.
"I am extremely grateful to join Coach Ingelsby's staff here at the University of Delaware," Nunez said. "Martin, the staff, student-athletes, and administration have done a tremendous job in leading this program in the right direction and I couldn't be more excited to be here. I can't wait to hit the ground running and help continue the success."
As a student-athlete at Farmingdale State College in New York, Nunez led the Rams to a conference title and an appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
In 2013, Nunez was honored as Farmingdale State College's Athlete of the Year, which is awarded to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the mission of Farmingdale State Athletics' commitment to sportsmanship, leadership, athletic performance, and academic success.
Following his graduation from Farmingdale State, he served as an assistant coach with the Rams for the 2013-14 season.
