Volleyball Begins CAA Play With Sweep Over Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Campbell in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-12) to begin CAA play. Delaware has now won 16 consecutive games against CAA opponents dating back to last season.

- Anna Logan Gillens hit .571 on her way to a match-high 14 kills.
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had eight kills, hit .615, and had two total blocks.
- Kirah Johnson hit .385 with six kills, three aces, and three total blocks.
- Rogers recorded 28 assists, three kills, one block, and two digs.
- Cadence Nguyen had five aces and 11 digs.
- Savannah Seemans had 11 digs to go with five kills and an ace.
- Hannah Wright had five digs and three assists.
- Taylor Holly recorded two aces and six digs.
- Asia Murray had a pair of blocks and a pair of kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- A kill and ace by Johnson and two kills by Gillens gave Delaware four straight points and an early 4-2 lead. Campbell had their best scoring run immediately after to go ahead 7-4.
- Delaware took the lead back for good at 10-9 and gradually kept pulling away from Campbell, and back-to-back aces by Nguyen put the Blue Hens up 21-15. Rogers had the set's final two kills for Delaware to put them up 1-0 in the match.
- Whitfield-Moss led the Blue Hens in the first set with four kills on a perfect hitting percentage, and Delaware hit .526 for the set. Rogers had nine assists and Nguyen had three aces.
- Delaware scored the first three points of the second, with Seemans recording back-to-back kills to start the set. An ace by Holly pushed the early lead to 7-3 before Delaware used a 3-0 run to go up 12-6, punctuated by a block from Johnson and Rogers.
- Campbell rallied back to even the score at 16, but Delaware ended the set by scoring nine of the final 11 points. Johnson had two kills and an ace during the final stretch, Seemans added an ace, and Gillens had a kill.
- Gillens caught fire in the second with six kills and a .667 hitting percentage, and Rogers added 11 assists.
- Two straight blocks by Murray and Whitfield-Moss highlighted an early 4-0 run and gave Delaware a 6-4 lead. Campbell tied the set at six, but the Blue Hens scored nine of the next 10 points to go up 15-7. Gillens, Rogers, Whitfield-Moss all had kills in succession and Holly had an ace. Then two kills by Seemans, two aces by Nguyen, and a kill by Whitifeld-Moss finished the run.
- Delaware then scored eight of the final nine points of the set and match. Gillens had three more kills, and Murray added two kills.
- Gillens again had six more kills in the third, and Delaware hit .467 in the set. They held Campbell to a .062 hitting percentage.
MATCH NOTES
- Seemans is now at 927 career assists and 172 aces. She is now tied with Renee DuFlon for fifth most aces in program history.
- Rogers is now at 1,031 career assists.
- Johnson is not at 346 career blocks.
- Nguyen's five aces were a career-best.
- Delaware has won 16 consecutive games dating back to last season, extending their program record.
- Delaware's 16 match win streak against conference opponents is the eighth longest active streak in Division I.
