Volleyball Completes CAA Opening Weekend Sweep Of Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Campbell in straight sets (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) for the second consecutive day to start off CAA play. Delaware has now won 17 consecutive games against CAA opponents dating back to last season.Â
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Kirah Johnson hit an astounding .706 with 12 kills, one ace, and three total blocks.
- Anna Logan Gillens had a match-high in kills with 14 for the second straight day, and finished with a .458 hitting percentage.Â
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had 12 kills, hit .450, and had four blocks.
- Lily Rogers recorded 41 assists, two kills, three aces, three blocks, and seven digs.
- Raina Hughes recorded six kills and a .313 hitting percentage with three blocks.Â
- Cadence Nguyen had a match-high 14 digs.Â
- Savannah Seemans had eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Delaware began the match on fire, using two 3-0 runs and a 5-0 run to go up 11-2. Johnson, GIllens, and Whitfield-Moss all had two kills each.Â
- Campbell began to chip away and cut the lead to 12-7. Delaware gradually pulled away, and Whitfield-Moss had a stretch of having three of Delaware's four kills to go up 21-12 before claiming the set. Hughes had two kills at the end to finish off the opening set.
- Gillens had six kills and Whitfield-Moss had five, while Rogers had 15 assists. Delaware hit .432 in the set compared to Campbell's .135. Rogers' 15 assists were the most by a Delaware player in a set this season, and the most since Ezgi Basaranlar had 18 last season against Elon on Nov. 12.Â
SECOND SET
- Delaware never trailed in the second set, and took command after a 4-0 run and recording six points during a seven point stretch to go up 13-6. Delaware had five blocks during the early run.
- Johnson had an ace to put Delaware ahead 17-10, then she caught fire at the end of the set to put UD up 2-0. Johnson had four kills for Delaware's final five points.
- Johnson recorded six kills in the second set, and Rogers had 13 more assists.Â
THIRD SET
- Campbell took their first lead of the match during the third set, and were up 7-2 and 11-6. Delaware responded by scoring eight of the next 10 and took a 14-13 lead. Hannah Wright and Savannah Seemans both had aces and Gillens and Johnson each had a kill during the stretch, while Gillens, Rogers, and Johnson had blocks.Â
- Campbell immediately tied, but Delaware ripped off an 8-0 run to take control and lead 22-14. Whitfield-Moss had two kills and a block, while Hughes had two kills, Rogers had two aces, and Gillens had a kill and a block during the run. Both teams exchanged a trio of points at the end, with Johnson finishing the weekend with the final kill.Â
- Whitfield-Moss had five kills in the set and Rogers had 13 assists.
MATCH NOTES
- Johnson's 12 kills without an attack error were the most by a Delaware player this season and most since Madelyn Grunza had 14 on Oct. 15, 2023 against Stony Brook.
- Johnson is not at 349Â career blocks.Â
- Rogers is now at 1,072Â career assists.
- Rogers' 41 assists are the most in a three-set match for a Delaware player since Basaranlar had 46Â against William & Mary on Nov. 8, 2019.Â
- Seemans passed Renee DuFlon and now sits in sole possession of fifth place on Delaware's all-time career aces leaderboard with 173.
- Delaware has won 17 consecutive games dating back to last season, extending their program record.Â
- Delaware's 17 match win streak against conference opponents is the eighth longest active streak in Division I.Â

- Delaware welcomes Towson to Newark for a rematch of the 2023 and 2022 CAA Conference Championships this weekend. Sept. 28 is Alumni Day.
