Football Hosts Sacred Heart for Parents and Family Weekend

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware football team will host Sacred Heart University for its final non-conference game of the season on September 28, 2024. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloFootball.

ABOUT THE HENS
- Delaware has started the season 3-0 after defeating Bryant, 48-17, North Carolina A&T, 42-13, and Penn, 29-22.
- Ryan O'Connor leads Delaware's offense with eight passing touchdowns, 882 yards, and a .621 completion percentage. He has also ran for a touchdown.Â
- Four UD running backs have scored touchdowns this season, led by Jo'Nathan Silver with three. Marcus Yarns and Quincy Watson have two each and Saeed St. Fleur has one. Yarns also has a receiving touchdown.
- Phil Lutz leads the Blue Hens' receiving corps with four touchdowns and 261 yards. He scored a pair of touchdowns last week against Penn.Â
- Gavin Moul's 21 tackles is tops on the team.Â
- KT Seay has two interceptions this season.
- Delaware's defense has recovered three fumbles and recorded four interceptions through the first three games.Â
- Delaware is 7-for-8 on fourth down conversions (87.5 percent - fifth in FCS).
- UD is 13-for-14 on red zone scores this season, first in the CAA.Â
ABOUT THE PIONEERS
- Sacred Heart enters Saturday's matchup with a 2-2 record with wins over Georgetown (40-14) and Division II St. Anselm (10-3) and losses to Delaware State (17-15) and Stonehill (35-21).
- The Pioneers are averaging 21.5 ppg and 341.0 ypg of total offense, including 205.5 rushing ypg which ranks 16th in the country.
- SHU's defense ranks 10th nationally in scoring defense (17.3 ppg) and 15th in total defense (288.0 ypg). The secondary is allowing just 124.0 passing ypg, which is fourth-best in the country.
- John Michalski has passed for 542 yards and three touchdowns through four games and has rushed for 42.3 ypg and two scores.
- Jalen Madison and Xavier Leigh are leading the rushing attack with a combined 155.5 ypg and five touchdowns.
- Maximus Mongelli and Myles Talley each lead the defense with 23 tackles, while Nate Chandler has 17 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
SERIES HISTORY
- This will be the third meeting between Delaware and Sacred Heart with the all-time series sitting at one win apiece. It will be the first matchup since the 2020-21 spring season when they met in the first round of the FCS Championship.
- In that playoff game, a 19-10 Delaware victory at Delaware Stadium, Nolan Henderson threw a touchdown pass to Braden Brose, Anthony Paoletti ran for another score and Ryan Coe connected on a 53-yard field goal. Noah Plack led the defense with 11 tackles and an interception.
- The first meeting between the two programs was in Newark during the 2014 season with the Pioneers coming away with a 10-7 victory on a 25-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter. Jalen Randolph ran for 113 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown, and Michael Johnson had 128 receiving yards on 10 catches.
