Field Hockey Remains Undefeated in CAA Play with 4-0 Win Against Hofstra

NEWARK, Del. – With stout defense and an offensive onslaught, the University of Delaware field hockey team (5-3, 2-0 CAA) took down Hofstra (3-5, 0-2 CAA) on a rainy Friday afternoon. The Blue Hens defense hasn't allowed a score in 222 minutes of game actions – nearly 17 quarters of play.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Rachael Whitehead scored a career high two goals, matching her career total from all of last season.
Janne Stoetzer and Valentina Martorell each added three points with a goal and an assist.
Sarah Rigual tallied her first point of the season with an assist.
Kate Fiest also assisted a score.
Cecile van Eijck (5-3) notched her third-straight shutout. She finished the day with one save.
UD outshot the Pride 15-1, including 10-1 on target.
The Blue & Gold also held the advantage in penalty corners, 4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hens struck first off a penalty corner as Stoetzer received the insert from Martorell and setup Whitehead for a blast to the left of the keeper.
In the third period, Stoetzer doubled the lead as she received a pass from Rigual just in front of the keeper.
Three minutes and 38 seconds into the final stanza, Martorell ripped a shot for the Hens third score. She received a feed from outside the circle from Fiest.
Whitehead added an insurance score with eight seconds left on a penalty stroke.
