NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware field hockey came up just short Sunday afternoon against No. 11 UConn and fell 2-1 in overtime. The Blue Hens drop to 5-4 on the season, while the Huskies advance to 9-1.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Kate Fiest scored the lone goal for the Hens on a deflection from Rachael Whitehead.
Cecile van Eijck (5-4) made six saves.
UD successfully shutdown all 11 corner attempts by the Huskies.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UConn capitalized with a one-on-one opportunity for an early score.
UD had an opportunity to tie the game before the end of the first period with a penalty stroke but was unsuccessful.
Almost six minutes into the second quarter, Whitehead sent a laser into the circle that Fiest was able to tip past the keeper. After video referral, the score was upheld.
Four quarters came and went with the score knotted at one.
Less than two minutes into the extra frame, the Huskies successfully completed a penalty stroke.

GAME NOTES

Taylor Vaccaro made her first career start.
Delaware has allowed just three goals over its last five games.
