IOWA CITY, IOWA - University of Delaware volleyball lost to San Jose State in straight sets (18-25, 19-25, 20-25) on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024 to close out the Hawkeye Invite.Â

- Savannah Seemans had a team-high nine kills and 10 digs, and added four aces.Â
- Lily Rogers had 24 assists, seven digs, and two blocks.Â
- Jayda Redd had five kills and five digs.Â
- Gha'Naye Whitfield-Moss had seven kills and two blocks.Â
- Kirah Johnson recorded five kills and two blocks.Â
- Cadence Nguyen had nine digs.Â
- Taylor Holly had seven digs.Â
- Mackenzie Sobczyk recorded her first kill of the season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- Seemans had three kills for Delaware's first five points of the match to take a three-point lead. San Jose State would come back to take a 9-8 lead, but Delaware scored six of the next seven points to go ahead 14-10.Â
- San Jose State retook control and went up 21-16 before winning the set.Â
- Seemans had five kills on a .500 hitting percentage and six digs in the opening set.Â
- The second set had seven ties and four lead changes, all early in the set, before San Jose State took the lead for good at 9-8.Â
- Whitfield-Moss had two kills at the start of the set, and Redd recorded her first career kill to cut San Jose State's lead to 10-9.Â
- Redd had Delaware's next three points in a row on kills to cut San Jose State's lead to 23-17, and back-to-back kills by Whitfield-Moss and Seemans made it 24-19 before San Jose State closed the set out.Â
- A kill and back-to-back aces by Seemans put Delaware on a 4-0 run and they took a 9-6 lead in the third. Another 4-0 run and kills by Redd and Whitfield-Moss had UD up 13-7.Â
- San Jose State eventually took a 23-16 lead. Whitfield-Moss and Sobczyk both had kills and an ace by Seemans brought the score to 24-20, but San Jose State won the match.Â
MATCH NOTES
- Seemans played in her 100th match of her career. She had played in every possible set of every match since arriving at Delaware as a freshman during the Spring 2021 season.Â
- Seemans had had at least 10 digs in four of the five matches to start the season.Â
- Seemans recorded her 900th kill of her career during the match. She currently sits at 908 career kills.Â
- Rogers recorded her 900th assist of her career during the match. She currently sits at 923 career assists.Â
- Redd made her collegiate debut during the match.Â
- Holly has 33 digs through her first five career matches, the most by a Delaware player since Rogers had 41 and Seemans had 50 during the Spring 2021 season.Â
- Delaware has opened the season with five consecutive road games, their most since beginning 2017 with 13 straight road games.Â
