Men’s Basketball Holds Off Elon in 79-77 Win

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's basketball picked up a critical 79-77 win over Elon Saturday afternoon. The Blue Hens (11-8, 4-2 CAA) out rebounded a Phoenix team (13-6, 4-2 CAA) that ranks sixth in the nation with a +10.7 margin.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- UD made 10 three pointers in the first half as part of a 59-percent field goal percentage, including 67-percent from deep and would finish the day at 46.4 percent overall and 40.0 percent from long range.
- John Camden led all scorers with 28 points on a 9-of-11 afternoon. He also tied his career mark of two blocks.
- Cavan Reilly tallied 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
- Erik Timko dropped 15 points.
- Niels Lane registered his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- UD scored the first nine points before the visitors found the bottom of the net coming out of the first break at 15:56. The home team continued to outpace its opponent and took a 23-13 lead into the under-12 timeout. The Blue & Gold opened the lead to as many as 18 points to head into the locker room with a 49-31 advantage.
- After Elon scored the first five points of the second stanza, the Hens buckled down and continued to hold onto a sizable lead that peaked at 19 – 64-45 with 12:32 on the clock. The Phoenix fought back and cut the deficit to single digits 70-62 at the 5:46 mark. Delaware rebuilt the lead to 15, but a 14-1 run over 2:39 made it a two-point game with 40.7 remaining. The Phoenix had a chance with a few seconds left to either tie or pull ahead, but couldn't convert.
- Delaware moves to 7-2 in the Bob Carpenter Center this season.
- UD advances to 11-2 when leading at the half this year.
- The Hens are now 5-1 when making at least 10 triples in a game with the lone loss coming at St. John's.
- Timko has scored in double figures in 90 of his 104 career games.
- Martin Ingelsby moves to 9-0 in his career against Elon at home.
