RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware men's swimmer Matvei Namakonov and diver Philip Townsend were awarded the Coastal Athletic Association's (CAA) athletes of the week, the league announced on Tuesday.
For Namakonov, it is his second swimmer of the week award this season. He posted two individual wins and was part of two pool records on winning relay teams as Delaware defeated Seton Hall last weekend. The junior posted a time of 20.14 in the 50 free, which is a top-10 performance in the conference, and claimed the 100 free with a time of 44.94. He was also a member of teams that set new pool records while capturing the 200 medley relay (1:29.24) and 200 free relay (1:22.30).
Townsend earned his first diver of the week honors this season. He achieved new NCAA Zone cut scores while sweeping both boards in Delaware's team victory over Seton Hall. The senior posted a score of 349.95 to capture the 3-meter competition and compiled a season-best score of 302.78 on the 1-meter board to claim the top spot.
