Football Falters at Jax State on Wednesday

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- QB Nick Minicucci set career-bests in completions (32), attempts (50) and passing yards (422) to go with one touchdown. It was the first time the signal caller crossed the 400-yard passing mark in his career.
- RB Viron Ellison Jr. ran for 15 yards and three touchdowns. It was his first-collegiate multi-touchdown game and the scores were his first three rushing touchdowns as a Blue Hen.
- WR Kyre Duplessis led the Hens with six catches for 90 yards.
- WR Max Patterson caught two passes for 61 yards and his first-career touchdown. He also recorded his longest-career reception of 40 yards.
- S KT Seay set a career-high with 3.5 TFLs and tallied 10 tackles, the second time this season he had double-digit tackles.
- LB Gavin Moul notched 13 tackles for his third game of 10 or more tackles this season and fifth of his career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jax State got on the board first with a six-yard rushing touchdown after being given a short field to go up 7-0 early in the first quarter.
- The Gamecocks returned a fumble 45 yards for their second touchdown of the game, going up 14-0 with 10:37 remaining in the first half.
- With 8:54 left in the first half, the home team added a 23-yard touchdown reception to increase the lead to 21-0.
- Delaware found the endzone thanks to a one-yard rushing touchdown by Ellison Jr., cutting the deficit to 21-6 after a failed two-point attempt with 2:23 left in the opening half.
- Jax State increased its lead to 28-6 after a one-yard touchdown run with 8:44 left in the third quarter.
- The Gamecocks added a two-yard rushing score with 3:20 left in the third to make it 34-6.
- Patterson hit paydirt from 21-yards out via a Minicucci pass, followed by another failed two-point attempt left the score 35-12.
- Jax State added a 52-yard field goal to make it 38-12 in the fourth.
- Ellison Jr. scored his second touchdown of the game with 9:25 remaining in the game to bring it to 38-19.
- For the third time in the game, Ellison Jr. found the endzone before a failed two-point attempt to cut the deficit to 38-25 with 2:48 to go. Delaware subsequently recovered an onside kick.
GAME NOTES
- DE Noah Matthews recorded his first-career sack as he paired up with Moul.
- Delaware recovered an onside kick for the first time since its last game against Jax State on May 2, 2021.
UP NEXT
The Blue Hens will host Middle Tennessee on Wednesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m. for Dollar Dog Night at Delaware Stadium. The game will air nationally on ESPN2.
