Volleyball Defeats LA Tech in Five-Sets to Earn First Ever Conference USA Win

RUSTON, LA. - University of Delaware volleyball defeated Louisiana Tech in five sets (20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-13, 15-10) to earn its first-ever Conference USA win. Head coach Kimberly Lambert is now 4-0 in the first road conference match at Delaware.Â

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Dylan Norris and Anna Logan Gillens each had a match-high tying 15 kills. Norris hit .314 with four blocks and Gillens added seven digs.Â
- Asia Murray contributed 11 kills and five blocks.
- Thalia Yancey had career-highs in blocks with four and digs with 14.Â
- Sila Ozyurek tallied four blocks. Â
- Kennedi Inman and Aubrey Lyssy combined for 41 assists, with Inman having 25 and Lyssy having 16. Inman also added 16 digs while Lyssy added 10 and three aces.
- Cadence Nguyen finished with 16 digs and six assists.Â
- Taylor Holly had three aces.Â
HOW ITÂ HAPPENED
FIRST SET
- LA Tech took a 3-2 lead early in the set and never looked back.Â
- After taking a 21-13 lead, Delaware scored six of the next eight points to bring the deficit to 23-19 before the Bulldogs finished off the set.Â
- Dylan Norris had three kills in the set and Lyssy had four digs.
SECONDÂ SETÂ
- LA Tech took a 14-10 lead in the second set. Five-straight points from Delaware gave UD its first lead of the set.Â
- Back-to-back kills from Yancey and Murray put the Blue Hens up 20-18, then a kill by Gillens and a block from Murray and Jayda Redd extended the lead to 22-19. Lyssy finished off the set victory with an ace.Â
- Murray had five kills in the set, while Inman had eight assists and seven digs. The seven digs tied a set-high by a Delaware player this season.Â
- LA Tech again got off to another quick start and led 5-1. Kills by Gillens and Ozyurek and an ace by Lyssy highlighted four-straight points and evened the score at six.Â
- Six-straight points from the Blue Hens put Delaware ahead 12-8. LA Tech then scored six-straight points to take a 23-18 lead before claiming the set to go up 2-1.Â
- Norris had four kills and Yancey had four digs in the set.Â
- Delaware never trailed in the fourth set, immediately taking control and using another 6-0 run to take a 17-6 lead. Gillens had two kills in the stretch, and Norris and Murray each added one. Norris and Murray also had a block.
- Delaware ended the set with a block from Yancey and Murray to even the match at two and force a decisive set five.Â
- Delaware hit .423, with Gillens having six kills and Norris having four.Â
- Back-to-back kills from Murray put Delaware up 3-2 before a service error gave UD a 4-3 lead. The Blue Hens then never trailed for the remainder of the set.Â
- Gillens had an ace to put UD up 9-6, and another block from Murray and Norris and an ace by Inman put Delaware ahead 14-9. Murray sealed the win with a kill.Â
- Murray had three kills in the final set and Delaware held LA Tech to a -.130 hitting percentage - the lowest hitting percentage they've held an opponent to in a set this season.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Delaware's win was its first conference victory as members of CUSA.
- Norris' 15 kills were a career-high, last done against Saint Peter's on Sept. 20.
- Gillens has had at least 15 kills in four of her last five matches.
- Murray's 11 kills were a career-high.Â
- Yancey's 14 digs were a career-high. She came into tonight's match with 11 career digs.Â
- Inman's 16 digs were a career-high.Â
- Holly's three aces tied a career-high, last done on Nov. 10, 2024 against Hampton.Â
- Lyssy recorded her second double-double in her last four games.Â
- Nguyen is averaging 3.82 digs per set in her last four matches.Â
