JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Alex Kazanecki scored a career high Sunday afternoon in the University of Delaware men's basketball's 79-59 setback to Southern Illinois to begin the Jacksonville Classic. The Fightin' Blue Hens dip to 1-4 with the Salukis advance to 3-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Kazanecki led all players with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-6 from long range.
Justyn Fernandez finished with 12 points and tied his career high of six rebounds.
Christian Bliss handed out seven assists. He's had at least five in each game this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The teams traded the first two buckets of the game before Southern Illinois ripped off 12-consecutive points to go ahead 14-2 up to the 13-minute mark of the first half. An 18-5 advantage for the Blue & Gold up to the 4-minute media stoppage at 3:57 made it a 24-22 game in favor of the Salukis. SIU tallied nine of the final 11 points to head into the locker room with a 33-24 advantage.
UD pulled within eight after a Tyler Houser three pointer with 17:33 remaining but couldn't shrink the gap any further.

Mason Ellison made his first career start.
