Men's Lacrosse Announces 2025-26 Captains and Hard Hat Award Winner

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's lacrosse has appointed Patrick Gillin, Jason Kolar, Matt Montgomery, and Brendan Powers as captains for the 2025-26 school year, Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Ben DeLuca announced Thursday. Kolar is the team's lone returning captain with the other three looking to fill the shoes of former captains Kevin Ellington and Logan Premtaj, who both graduated in the spring.
In addition, Owen Black earned the coveted Hard Hat Award for this year, the yearly honor voted on by the coaching staff as the program's hardest-working and most team-first player. The Bryn Mawr, Pa. native appeared in six games for UD last season, scoring his first-career goal against Penn.
Gillin, the 2024-25 Hard Hat Award winner, appeared in all 13 games for the Fightin' Blue Hens last season. The Wayne, Pa. native scored a career-best four goals and tallied two assists for six points, while collecting a career-high 32 ground balls and caused eight turnovers.
Kolar, a second-year captain, appeared and started in all 13 games for the Hens last season. The Mount Airy, Md. native recorded 15 goals and 12 assists for 27 points a year ago. He earned CAA Player of the Week for his seven-point performance against Drexel.
Montgomery, who missed all of last season due to injury, was a Second Team All-CAA selection and a USILA Scholar All-American the last time he stepped foot on the field for the Blue & Gold in 2024. The West Chester, Pa. started all 14 games that year, tallying 15 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
