Powers Nets Career-High Six Goals as #16/18/18 Men’s Lacrosse Storms Past St. John’s, 17-10

NEWARK, Del. – Brendan Powers netted a career-high six goals as the #16/18/18 University of Delaware men's lacrosse team stormed past St. John's, 17-10 on Saturday. The Blue Hens improve to 2-0, while the Red Storm drops to 1-1.

- UD outscored the Red Storm 10-1 in the second half.
- Powers tallied his first-career sock-trick (six goals).
- Cory Capri netted his first-career hat-trick.
- John McCurry tallied his first hat-trick in 2025.
- Jason Kolar and Tyler Owings each added two goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. John's held a 4-1 lead at the game's initial media stoppage with 5:43 to go in the opening quarter. The Red Storm took a 5-2 lead advantage into the second frame.
- It was a penalty-filled second period for Delaware, but Ellington and the defense stepped up, allowing a lone goal over four overlapping penalties. The Hens struck for five goals in the second, leaving the halftime score at 9-7 in favor of the Red Storm.
- A pair of goals from McCurry and Powers knotted the game up at nine with 7:56 to go in the third. Capri scored his third of the game for the Hens with 2:10 remaining to give his team their first lead of the game at 10-9.
- Delaware outpaced St. John's 7-1 in the fourth to widen the margin.
GAME NOTES
- Ben DeLuca has not lost a home opener since taking over the Blue Hens, going 8-0 in that span.
- Delaware improves to 5-0 all-time against St. John's.
