Costaro Named CAA Co-Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. - University of Delaware softball's Gianna Costaro was named CAA Co-Player of the Week after her performance at the Mizuno Classic, as announced by the league on February 25, 2025. This is Costaro's fourth CAA Weekly Award, and her second career Player of the Week honor. She also earned the award last year after her performance at the Rawlings Classic, also hosted by Virginia.
During Friday and Saturday's games of the Tournament, Costaro 6-for-10 with a home run, five RBIs, three runs scored, and three walks - good for a .600/.692/.900 slash line. Overall for the tournament, she hit .500/.600/.750. On Friday, she went 2-for-3 with a walk against Virginia and 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs against Penn. On Saturday, she hit a three-run home run in the first inning against Penn and then had a hit, walk, and scored a run against Virginia. Overall this season, Costaro is hitting .333/.500/.583 with two home runs, seven RBIs, and six walks in 10 games, and has reached base in eight of them. Costaro has played nine games in her career at Palmer Park, and is hitting .458/.567/.875 with three home runs, 11 RBIs, and five walks.Â
This is Delaware's third CAA Weekly Award of the season, as Sydney Shaffer and Billie Kerwood earned Player and Pitcher of the Week honors during Delaware's opening weekend of the season against Illinois State, South Florida, Georgia Southern, Michigan, and Florida. Delaware is home for the first time this season as they host the Blue Hen Invitational against Syracuse, Morgan State, and Quinnipiac.Â
