Namakonov Qualifies for NCAA Championship Meet

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware Swimming & Diving athlete Matvei Namakonov qualified to compete in the NCAA Championships meet, the league announced on Wednesday.Â
Namakonov qualified in the 100 breast, where he swam a time of 51.16. This time was not only a program record but was a Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) championship meet record. His time ranks 15th in the country and earned an NCAA b cut.
In addition, Namakonov will also swim in the 50 & 100 freestyle. He came in first place in both events at the CAA championships. His broke the program record in both events with times of 19.43 in the 50 free and 42.53 in the 100 free, earning an NCAA b cut in the process.
The junior from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan is the second Blue Hen in two years to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Last year, Toni Sabev qualified to compete in the same event as Namakonov, along with the 200 breast.
The NCAA Championships will take place from March 26-29 in in Federal Way, Wash.Â
