Shaffer Records 100th Career Hit in Softball's Six-Inning Victory over Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - University of Delaware softball defeated Hofstra 9-0 on Sunday to cap off its weekend series. Sydney Shaffer recorded her 100th career hit with a home run in the sixth inning.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Shaffer went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored.
Chloe Blantz hit a three-run home run and scored two runs.
Katie Scheivert went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Morgan Hess went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Ellie Mulligan had a double and a run scored.
Billie Kerwood pitched a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to earn the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kerwood struck out two in a hitless first inning.
Hess singled and Cahalan walked to start off the second inning before Blantz hit a three-run home run to give Delaware the early lead.
Kerwood struck out two and stranded two in the second inning. She also stranded a leadoff double in the third with a strikeout to end the inning.
Delaware added four runs in the fourth, helped by errors from Hofstra, to take a 7-0 lead.
Kerwood pitched hitless innings in the fourth and fifth.
Shaffer hit a two-run home run in the sixth to put Delaware ahead 9-0. Kerwood sealed the win with another hitless inning and a strikeout in the sixth.

GAME NOTES

Shaffer became the fourth Delaware player this season to record their 100th career hit. Mary Beth Cahalan, Katie Scheivert, and Chloe Blantz all did so in different games in February.
Shaffer has hit five home runs over her last four games and is up to nine this season. Her nine home runs are tied for sixth most in a season in program history and most since Brooke Glanden hit nine in 2022.
Shaffer is also up to 14 career home runs, tied with Gina Knutson for seventh most in program history.
Scheivert is on an eight-game hit streak, the longest by a Delaware player this season and tied for the longest of her career, and has nine multi-hit games, tied with Shaffer for most on the team this year.
Blantz hit her fourth home run of the season and seventh of her career.
Kerwood threw her first shutout of the season and fifth of her career. It was also Delaware's seventh shutout this season - best in the CAA.
