RICHMOND, Va. - University of Delaware softball's Josie Crossman was named CAA Rookie of the Week after her performance during the Blue Hen Invitational, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Crossman pitched eight shutout innings in her two appearances with just four hits allowed and six strikeouts. She became the first freshman to pitch a shutout for UD since Delani Sheehan on April 21, 2021 against Villanova when she kept Morgan Stat off the board on Friday. She allowed just three hits and struck out five on her way to being the first Blue Hen to pitch a shutout this season. She also threw a scoreless inning against Syracuse later that night. Crossman is the first Delaware pitcher to earn Rookie of the Week since Graceyn Frost on April 11, 2022.Â
Crossman has had a spectacular start to begin her career, as she leads Delaware with a 1.31 ERA in her six appearances and is 2-1 in 16 innings. In her last five games, she has pitched to a 0.88 ERA. Delaware has earned a CAA Weekly Award in every week they have played in, and has had four players honored so far this season (Sydney Shaffer and Billie Kerwood - Feb. 11, Gianna Costaro - Feb. 25). Their four honors are tied with UNCW for the conference lead.Â
The Blue Hens are scheduled to play Coppin State this week before opening up CAA play against Drexel this weekend.Â
