Baseball Advances to Liberty Bell Classic Championship for Third Year in a Row

MERRION STATION, Pa. – For the third year in a row, the University of Delaware baseball team advances to the Liberty Bell Classic Championship as the Blue Hens defeated Saint Joseph's by a score of 12-7 on Tuesday.
The Blue Hens will take on Rider, for the third year in a row, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
In addition, Delaware's midweek game against Maryland has been moved to Wednesday, April 9 at 5 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.
With the win, the Blue Hens overall record is 16-11.

RECORD BREAKER
- In today's win, Andrew Amato broke the single-game program record for most walks in a game with five. The most recent Blue Hen to set the record was Dan Cavino, who walked four times in a 10-inning game back on May 26, 2023 against Charleston.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Aaron Graeber led the Blue Hens offensively, going 2-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs. Tanner Donati was the other Blue Hen with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
- Starting on the mound was Elias Conway. In relief was Justin Needles, Ben Moyzan, Jonah Richardson and Andrew Callaway. They combined for six strikeouts for the game. Needles was credited with the win, he is 2-0 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Hawks took a 2-0 lead through the first two innings, Graeber gave the Blue Hens the lead with a grand slam.
- UD added runs in the fourth, and eighth innings In the fourth, Amato and Donati scored off a wild pitch, in the eighth, Graeber drove in a run off a hit by pitch and Evan Bouldin drove in a run off a fielder's choice.
- The Hawks climbed back into the game with a four-run bottom of the eighth, but the Blue Hens shut the door on any comeback with insurance runs in the ninth. LT Cockrill started the rally off a hit by pitch, Graeber drove in a run off a single, Bouldin drove in a run off a fielder's choice and a throwing error, and Donati drove in a run off a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Hens return to Bob Hannah Stadium with a three-game series against Towson from April 4-6.
