Namakonov Receives CAA Men's Swimmer of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. – The Coastal Athletic Association announces Delaware athlete Matvei Namakonov was named the conferences Men's Swimmer of the Year, the league announced on Thursday.
Namakonov is the first Blue Hen to earn the conferences Swimmer of the Year since 2014 when Cory Camp received the honor. Namakonov and Camp are the only two Blue Hens to ever receive the conference's swimmer of the year award.
Namakonov had a historic season for the Blue Hens, placing in first in the 50 free, 100 free and as a member of the 200-medley relay. He also earned top three finishes in the 100 breast, and as a member of the 200 freestyle relay, 400-medley relay, and 400-freestyle relay.
The junior from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan broke the CAA Championship meet record, and program record, in the 100 breast (51.16). He also owns the program record in the 50 free (19.43), 100 free (42.53), and 100 fly (46.86).
His performances in the regular season earned a spot at the NCAA swimming championships in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 breast. He became the first Blue Hen in the last two seasons, along with Toni Sabev, to compete at the NCAA Championships. He was also the lone CAA swimmer represented at the NCAA Championships as well.
