Currie, Namakonov Recognized as Academic All-America by College Sports Communicators

NEWARK, Del. – Gavin Currie and Matvei Namakonov from the University of Delaware men's swimming & diving team we're recognized to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America third team, the organization announced on Wednesday.
Namakonov and Currie made a big impact for the Blue Hens in the 2024-25 regular season.
Individually, Namakonov won the 50 free and 100 free at Coastal Athletic Association's (CAA) Championships back in February and March. Namakonov also set the CAA Championship meet record in the 100 breast with a time of 51.16. The time ranks 46th all-time in NCAA history. His performance at the CAA Championships earned himself a spot in the NCAA Swimming Championships.
As for Currie, he earned a silver medal in the 200 back at the CAA Championships. He also earned a silver medal as a member of the 400 medley relay. He broke the program record in the 100 back (46.63, set in 2023) and 200 back (1:41.67, set in 2024).
The two swimmers also earned gold medals as a member of the 200-medley relay.
In the classroom, Currie boast a 3.95 GPA and is majoring in Business Analytics and Finance. Namakonov boast a 3.89 GPA and is majoring in Physics.
This is the first time any Blue Hen swimming & diving athlete were recognized by CSC as an Academic All-American. The last time a Blue Hen was recognized as an All-American was back in 2024 when Currie, Namakonov, Toni Savev and Kevin Siegfried by College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). in 2022 Simeon Sabev, Toni Sabev and Eric Veit were also recognized.
