Hess Fires Second Career No-Hitter in Softball's 10-0 Win Over Monmouth

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Hess threw all five innings, striking out six of the 19 batters she faced in the no-hitter. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and run scored.Â
- Blantz went 4-for-4, falling a home run shy of the cycle.Â
- Katie Scheivert went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.Â
- Sorella Gallucci and Veronica Diomede went 2-for-3. Gallucci had a double, two runs scored, and an RBI and Diomede scored two runs and drive in a run.Â
- Ryleigh Thomas and Mary Beth Cahalan but went 1-for-3.Â
- Sydney Shaffer drove in two runs.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Blantz came around to score on a groundout after a one-out triple to put Delaware ahead 1-0 in the first. Hess struck out two in the bottom half of the inning, then pitched a perfect second with a strikeout.Â
- Delaware tacked on three runs in the third. Diomede and Scheivert both singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Scheivert stole second and she and Diomede scored on a throwing error to give UD a 3-0 lead. Shaffer scored Blantz on a sacrifice fly for the Blue Hens' fourth run. Â
- Hess responded with a perfect third inning, picking up another strikeout.Â
- Another three-run inning put Delaware up 7-0. A squeeze bunt from Diomede scored Thomas and two errors scored Gallucci and Diomede.Â
- Hess worked around two walks in the fourth to keep Monmouth off the board.Â
- Delaware scored three-runs for the third straight inning to take a 10-0 lead. Gallucci singled home Hess, then scored on an error, and Scheivert scored pinch runner Grace Hausamann on a single.Â
- Hess picked up another strikeout in the fifth, and secured the no-hitter with a foul popup to Gallucci at third to end it. Â
GAME NOTES
- Hess became the third player in program history with multiple no-hitters in their Delaware career. She joined Kristi O'Connell, who threw five, and Patty Freeman, who threw three.Â
- This is Delaware's second no-hitter this season. Billie Kerwood no-hit Hampton on April 18. This is the first time since 2000 in which Delaware has thrown multiple no-hitters in one season.Â
- Delaware is the only team in the CAA with multiple no-hitters this season.Â
- This is Delaware's 20th no-hitter in program history. Â
- Hess also threw her CAA-leading fifth shutout of the season.Â
- Chloe Blantz scored her 100th run of her career. She joined Hanna Garber (161), Leanna Gearhart (157), Jessica Grisler (135), Brittney Mendoza (126), Mandy Welch (119), and Katie Lee (105) as the only players in program history with 100 runs scored.
- Blantz's four-hit game was the first in her career.Â
- Scheivert has scored a run in nine consecutive games and is at 94 for her career.
- Delaware has 15 shutouts this season, second most in program history only behind the 2000 season that had 19 shutouts.Â
- Delaware pitchers have 301 strikeouts this season, the second time in program history it has at least 300 strikeouts in a season (330, 2006).Â
- Delaware has won eight consecutive road games, tied for its longest in program history and last done in 1986.Â
- Delaware has won nine consecutive conference games, one shy of tying its program record done in 2024 and 2023.Â
- This was Delaware's 16th run-rule victory of the season.Â
