Kerwood Shuts Out Monmouth to Secure Softball's Series Sweep

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Billie Kerwood pitched a four-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts.Â
- Sydney Shaffer and Mary Beth Cahalan went 2-for-4.Â
- Veronica Diomede went 2-for-3 with a run scored and stolen base.Â
- Katie Scheivert went 1-for-3 with an RBI.Â
- Chloe Blantz had a hit and RBI.Â
- Sorella Gallucci had a hit, run scored, and RBI.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kerwood struck out two batters in the first.Â
- Delaware scored a run in the second on an error to take a 1-0 lead.Â
- In the third inning, Blantz threw out the potential tying run at home to end the inning. Kerwood picked up two more strikeouts.Â
- UD scored three runs in the fourth. Kristen Luzon had a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to score Ryleigh Thomas, and Scheivert hit a sacrifice fly to score Gallucci. Blantz then scored Diomede with a single.Â
- Kerwood struck out three in the fifth inning, then threw a perfect sixth.Â
- In the seventh, Kerwood had two strikeouts to finish off the shutout.Â
GAME NOTES
- Delaware has won nine consecutive road games to set a new program record that was previously set in 1986. Â
- Delaware has won 10 consecutive conference games, tying its program record done in 2024 and 2023.Â
- Delaware has 16 shutouts this season, second most in program history only behind the 2000 season that had 19 shutouts.Â
- Of Delaware's 57 outs recorded in the series, 32 were via the strikeout.Â
- Kerwood won her 21st game of the season, one shy of tying Emily Winburn (22, 2024) for the single-season program record.Â
- Kerwood threw her fourth shutout of the season.Â
- Kerwood struck out at least 10 hitters in back-to-back games for the first time in her career.Â
- For the weekend, Kerwood had 26 strikeouts in 14 innings with just one run and seven hits allowed Â
- Blantz has a hit in eight-consecutive games, tying a season-high for a Delaware player and the longest hitting streak of her career.Â
- Shaffer recorded her 20th multi-hit game of the season, the most since Mariah Kondravy in 2016.
- Delaware went 14-2 in the month of April, outscoring opponents 158-30. The Blue Hens hit .367/.412/.559 in April and pitched to a 1.46 ERA with nine shutouts.Â
- Delaware currently is in first place in the CAA standings with one weekend of play remaining. Elon sits in second place at 19-5 with Delaware holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Phoenix. Campbell is in third at 18-6, Charleston and Stony Brook are fourth at 17-7, and Hofstra is sixth at 12-12 with UNCW and Towson trailing behind at 11-13.Â
