Throws Athlete Olamide Ayeni Receives CAA Rookie of the Year Honors

RICHMOND, Va. - Throws athlete Olamide Ayeni from the University of Delaware track & field team was awarded the Coastal Athletic Association's Rookie of the Year, the league announced on Thursday.

The freshman from Denton, Texas made her mark with the Blue Hens, winning the discus throw at the CAA Outdoor Championships with a throw of 52.53 meters, a mark that ranks second all-time in program history. In addition, Ayeni's throw of 14.74 meters in the shot put ranks third all-time in the Delaware record books.

She qualified for the NCAA East First Round, as well as the USATF U20 Championships. At the U20 Championships, she placed second overall in the discus throw with a mark of 52.93 meters.

Ayeni is the track programs first conference major award winner since Megan Albamonti, who was named the Field Athlete of the Year back in 2023. She is also the first Blue Hen to earn the conference's rookie of the year since 2010, when Victoria Caruso received the honors.
