Kerwood Named ECAC Pitcher of the Year, Shaffer Named to All-ECAC Team

DANBURY, Conn. - University of Delaware's Billie Kerwood was named ECAC Pitcher of the Year and Sydney Shaffer was named to the All-ECAC Team, the organization announced.Â
Kerwood becomes the first Delaware player to ever be named ECAC Pitcher of the Year, and the third Delaware pitcher to ever be named to an All-ECAC Team (Emily Winburn, 2024 and Amanda Cariello, 2001 - Honorable Mention). Kerwood had a historic 2025 season in her lone year at Delaware after transferring from Monmouth, as she was named CAA Player of the Year and was an East-Region First-Team selection. She went 23-10 in 194 innings with a 1.59 ERA, 250 strikeouts, 13 complete games, four shutouts, and has held opponents to a .190 BAA. Her 23 wins and 250 strikeouts were single-season program records. Kerwood was the first CAA pitcher to lead the conference in ERA, wins, and strikeouts since 2017, and also led in innings pitched, complete games, and BAA and was second in shutouts. On April 18 against Hampton, she threw the program's 19th-ever no-hitter. Kerwood ended her career as one of five active pitchers with 700 career strikeouts. She recently signed with the Atlanta Smoke of Women's Professional Fastpitch.
Shaffer joined Kerwood on the All-ECAC Team. Shaffer put together the best offensive season in Delaware history after hitting .421/.540/.888 with 19 home runs, 57 RBIs, 49 runs scored, 14 doubles, and 38 walks. She set program records for average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs, and total bases in a season. Shaffer was named CAA Player of the Year and was an East-Region First-Team selection. Shaffer's overall OPS of 1.428 and CAA-only OPS of 1.504 were the best by a CAA player since 2021. She became the second Delaware player named to an All-ECAC Team at the designated player position in program history (Mariah Kondravy, 2016 - Second-Team.Â

The ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) is an eighty-year old organization with well over 200 members schools across all three NCAA Divisions - I, II and III. There are 67 Division I programs that are members of the ECAC, including programs from the ACC, Big 10, Big East, Atlantic 10, and CAAÂ and 2025 NCAA Tournament programs Binghamton, Connecticut, Marist, Brown, and Saint Francis.Â
Delaware had a historic season in 2025 that led to its third CAA Regular Season Championship in four seasons. The Blue Hens set program records in home runs, doubles, strikeouts, conference wins, consecutive conference wins, run-rule victories, and consecutive run-rule victories in a season. Its 23 conference wins were the most ever by a CAA team. Delaware is one of eight Division I teams with at least 20 conference wins in the last two seasons.Â
