Field Hockey Defeats Kent State, Zollinger Records First Win at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. - University of Delaware field hockey picked up its first win of the season, defeating the Kent State Golden Flashes 2-0. This was head coach Tara Zollinger's first win with the program.
The Fightin' Blue Hens improve to 1-3 on the season.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Linde van Leeuwen and Iris Bekker notched goals for the Blue Hens in the second and third quarter, respectively.
- Gabby Prentice recorded a save in her first career win and shutout.
- Iris Bekker picked up a defensive save to keep Kent State off the board.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With one minute remaining in the second quarter, van Leeuwen registered her score on a quick penalty corner with assists from Kate Fiest and Sarah Rigual.
- Bekker followed almost identically to her Dutch counterpart in the next stanza, striking the ball on an angle, bouncing past a defender into the cage. Her score also received helpers from Fiest and Rigual.
GAME NOTES
- Prentice is the first freshman goalkeeper to record a shutout in the cage for the Blue & Gold since Lizzie Gaebel on September 9, 2018 against American.
- van Leeuwen's goal is her first as a Blue Hen since transferring in from Bryant.
- Bekker recorded a goal in her first game against her former school since joining Delaware.
- Both goal scorers hail from the Netherlands, scoring once each during International Night.
- Amanda Rattay made her first career start.
