Men's Soccer Earns First Summit League Win over UMass

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team defeated Summit League opponent University of Massachusetts (UMass) 2-1 at Grant Stadium Saturday evening.
With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens' overall record becomes 8-0-1, continuing the best start in the program's 100-year history.
HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Marius Stenner and Rich Monath scored for the Hens.
- This was Stenner's 18th career goal and Monath's 10th.
- Stenner's goal was assisted by Jan Schroeder and Emmett Kershner. Monath's was assisted by Schroeder and Freddy Jeffreys.
- JoJo Elliott Jr. collected his ninth career start with three saves on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMass struck first with a goal in the 36th minute of play.
- Just over three minutes later, Stenner found the back of the net off of assists from Schroeder and Kershner, leaving the score tied 1-1 at halftime.
- Monath then scored the game winner in the 77th minute of the game off of assists from Schroeder and Freddy Jeffreys.
GAME NOTES
- With this win, the Blue Hens remain one of six teams in the nation without a loss through eight or more games.
UP NEXT
The men's soccer program heads to Lehigh University on Tuesday, September 30 for a 6pm match up.
