Men’s Basketball Falls in OT at LA Tech

RUSTON, La. – University of Delaware men's basketball fell in overtime Saturday afternoon against LA Tech, 70-68. The Fightin' Blue Hens dip to 5-11, 1-4 CUSA, while the Bulldogs advance to 9-7, 2-3 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- UD shot 66.7 percent from the field in the first half, including 4-of-8 from long range.
- The Hens outshot the Bulldogs in all-three facets of the game.
- This was the first time this season Delaware has had five players with at least 10 points.
- Justyn Fernandez led all scorers with 18 points on a 7-of-13 afternoon.
- Christian Bliss filled the stat sheet with 14 points, nine assists, and six rebounds.
- Tyler Houser tallied 12 points and six boards for his fourth-consecutive double figure game.
- Jayden Taylor recorded a career-high 11 points and added a career-mark seven rebounds.
- Macon Emory rounded out the double-digit scorers with an even 10 points. He also snagged seven boards.
- Delaware scored the first five points of the game before the hosts found the bottom of the basket. Playing at the same pace, the Hens held a 10-4 advantage at the first media stoppage at 15:59. The Bulldogs pulled within one point at 13:08, but the Blue & Gold widened the gap quickly. Using an 8-0 run over a 1:28 span, UD forced the second timeout by LA Tech with the Hens ahead 29-17 with 6:49 left in the half. The hosts rallied back to cut the gap to 34-29 heading into the locker room.
- LA Tech made it a three-point game at the start of the second half, but Delaware responded with six-unanswered points over 2:15 to push the gap back to nine points for a 40-31 score at 17:58. The Bulldogs battled back to tie the game with a 10-0 run over 1:24 to force a UD timeout at 42 apiece. Delaware held a 16-8 differential heading into the under-eight media break to hold the 58-50 lead with 6:44 remaining. A 13-3 advantage for the home team gave LA Tech its first lead of the game at 63-61 with 1:09 left. Delaware scored once more to send the game to overtime.
- UD scored the first four points of the extra frame before LA Tech responded with four unanswered to force a Martin Ingelsby timeout with a 67-67 tie at the 59-second mark. The Blue & Gold hit a free throw to take a one-point lead, however couldn't hold the advantage.
Delaware returns to the Bob Carpenter Center to host UTEP on Thursday. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
