Strong Second Half Leads Liberty Past Men’s Basketball

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A strong second half from Liberty was the difference for the University of Delaware on Saturday afternoon in a 67-51 setback to the Flames. The Fightin' Blue Hens drop to 5-14 overall, 1-7 in CUSA play, while the Flames advance to 17-3, 10-0 CUSA.

Christian Bliss led UD with 17 points and six rebounds in a full 40 minutes of play.
Justyn Fernandez also played the full game and tallied 16 points and five boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Delaware scored the first four points of the game, holding Liberty 0-for-6 from the floor to begin the contest before the home team connected on a triple for a 4-3 score heading into the first stoppage of the game at 14:55. After a defensive battle through the next five minutes, the offenses came alive with the Flames taking a 30-21 lead into the final break of the first frame at 3:42 with both offenses shooting an even 50-percent from the floor. UD outscored Liberty 7-4 for the remainder of the half, but the Flames held a 34-28 lead into the locker room.
Liberty scored the first four points of the second stanza to widen the gap to 10 points, forcing a timeout from UD at 15:37. The Flames took their largest lead of the game to that point at 46-34 heading into the under-12 timeout. Liberty continued to build its lead throughout the rest of the game.
