HUNTSVILLE, Texas – University of Delaware men's basketball dropped its first road CUSA game at Sam Houston Thursday evening, 72-60. The Fightin' Blue Hens fall to 5-10, 1-3 CUSA, while the Bearkats improve to 9-6, 1-3 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Christian Bliss led the team with 18 points and seven assists. He also added three rebounds.
Tyler Houser dropped 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Justyn Fernandez scored 15 points on his birthday and added five boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sam Houston scored the first seven points of the game before UD tallied five-unanswered points which led to an eventual 9-5 lead at the first media stoppage. Keeping a similar pace as the opening segment, the Berkats held a 16-11 lead up to 11:55. Delaware pulled within two points on three different occasions, but the host built the lead back to seven at the 5:29 mark. A 6-2 advantage on a pair of triples allowed the Hens to cut the gap to 31-28 at the final media stoppage of the half. SHSU went into the locker room with a 35-29 lead.
The Bearkats began to pull away in the second after a 13-4 scoring differential over the opening 4:04 to push the gap to 48-33. The Blue & Gold responded with a 9-0 run over 1:41 on three long balls to return the difference to six points. The run was aided by 2:54 of scoreless defense. Sam Houston took control for most of the remainder of the second half going up by as many as 15. UD battled back late and made it a six-point game again at 66-60 with 1:10 remaining. SHSU made six-straight free throws to end the game with a score of 72-60.
