NEWARK, Del. – As part of its fall exhibition schedule, the University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team will be hosting the 2026 Blue Hen Beach Battle the weekend of October 17-18 at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Delaware. The Fightin’ Blue Hens will play a trio of exhibitions on Saturday before hosting an open clinic on Sunday.
“This weekend has been the highlight of our fall season for the past few years,” head coach Amy Altig said. “We're really looking forward to this opportunity to showcase our program and connect with the lacrosse community in southern Delaware year after year. It's a great chance for our team to compete against quality opponents, but just as importantly, to give back to the game through our youth clinic and help inspire the next generation of players in Delaware."
The Blue Hens will bring in three teams - Army, James Madison, and Penn State - to the Delaware beaches for an overnight trip. This is the third-consecutive year the Hens have hosted a weekend of fall ball activities in southern Delaware. Last fall, UD hosted a clinic at Cape Henlopen and brought in Loyola Maryland and Niagara for exhibition games in Frederick.
The weekend will start on Saturday as Delaware will compete in scrimmages against all three teams as part of their fall ball schedule. The contest against the Black Knights will begin at 10 a.m., while the matchup against the Dukes will start at 12:20 p.m., and the finale against the Nittany Lions is set for 2:45 p.m. The other three teams will also play against each other in exhibitions. All games will be held at Cape Henlopen’s Champions Stadium and are open and free to the public.
The following morning, the Fightin’ Blue Hens will return to Champions Stadium to participate in a clinic open to any girl’s lacrosse players in kindergarten through eighth grade. The clinic will run from 9-11 a.m. and participants will have the opportunity to learn the skills and fundamentals of the sport from Delaware’s coaches and student-athletes.

The Blue Hens are preparing for the 2027 season, their second as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN). Delaware wrapped up a historic 2026 season with a 13-5 overall record, the program's most wins since 1999. In its first season in the ASUN, UD went 8-0 in conference play to win its first regular season championship since 1999 and mark the fifth time that the program has finished undefeated in conference. Delaware defeated Lindenwood in the ASUN semifinals for the program's first conference tournament victory since 2009. The Blue Hens took home four conference major awards including ASUN Offensive Player of the Year (Ella Rishko), ASUN Defensive Player of the Year (Kennedy Radziul), ASUN Midfielder of the Year (Morgan Gore), and ASUN Coach of the Year (Altig), and had six all-conference selections.
