Baseball Defeats La Salle for Second Time This Season

NEWARK, Del. - For the second time in a span of eight days, the University of Delaware baseball program defeated La Salle at Bob Hannah Stadium by a score of 8-4 on Wednesday.Â
With the win, the Fightin' Blue Hens overall record improved to 2-7.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS
- Eight of the nine Blue Hens hitters recorded a hit. Jeremy Wolf and Anthony Charles both had multi-hit games. Wolf went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and scored three times. Charles also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.Â
- The Blue Hens pitching unit had a strong performance on the mound, highlighted by Ryan McLaughlin, who picked up the win and is now 1-0. He pitched three innings, allowed no runs or hits, and struck out three batters. Jake Pollaro, Ben Moyzan and Andrew Callaway pitched the final six innings. They combined for four earned runs and nine strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hens offense got off to a hot start, scoring five runs over the first three innings of the game.
- Evan Bouldin got the run started in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, scoring Sal Mineo. Wolf and Harry Carr both had RBI singles in the same inning.
- Noah Burroughs hit an RBI triple in the second inning, scoring Matthew Minckler. It was Burroughs first triple of the season. The following inning, Sam Winsett drove in LT Cockrill off a single to give the Blue Hens a 5-0 lead after the third inning.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Wolf hit a solo home run to extend the lead. It was his first of the season.Â
- In the seventh, an RBI single to left field by Charles, along with a double steal with Charles taking second base, and Carr stealing home, extended the Blue Hen lead to 8-1 and helped secure the win.
