Baseball Cruises Past Rider in Series-Opening Game, 13-8

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware baseball used a 17-hit outing Friday evening to cruise past Rider in the series-opening game, 13-8. The Fightin' Blue Hens move to 3-7 overall, while the Broncs dip to 3-1.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Sal Mineo recorded four hits in six trips with four runs and a pair of RBIs.
Matthew Minckler and Jeremy Wolf each picked up two hits and three runs scored, with Wolf registering three RBIs.
Vincent Davis and Evan Bouldin also batted in two runs each.
Jonah Richardson (1-1) picked up the win going three innings with three strikeouts and one earned run.
Elias Conway started the game, struck out five, and allowed two runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Rider scored one in both the first and second innings to pull ahead 2-0.
Delaware responded in the third as Davis recorded an RBI double followed by a sacrifice fly from Bouldin.
The Broncs added one more in the fourth to regain the lead 3-2.
UD platted four in the fourth, seeing Wolf go yard on a solo shot. Mineo knocked in two with a two-run single, then Davis recorded an RBI single to push the Hens ahead 6-3.
The visitors added a run in the sixth to cut the gap to 6-4.
Five hits brought in four runs for the Blue & Gold in the sixth to push the margin to 10-4.
Another two hits in the seventh saw a pair of Delaware RBIs to make it 12-4.
A pinch-hit RBI double off the bat of Anthony Charles widened the margin to 13-4 in the eighth.
Rider attempted a comeback in the final frame but only scored five runs.
