JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University of Delaware men's basketball team forced an extra period Thursday night, but fell to Jacksonville State, 80-70. The Fightin' Blue Hens drop to 9-19, 5-12 CUSA, while the Gamecocks advance to 14-14, 9-8 CUSA.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Justyn Fernandez led the Hens with a career-high 30 points.
Christian Bliss tallied 19 points and handed out five assists.
Macon Emory neared a double-double with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Houston Emory registered a career-high six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first four minutes of the game saw 10 points scored with seven in favor of the home team. At the under-12 media break, the Gamecocks held steady with a 12-7 lead with 11:18 on the clock. Delaware cut into the deficit with a 7-4 margin into the next stoppage down 16-14. Three Bliss free throws made coming out of the final media break of the half gave UD a 20-18 lead with 2:54 left. The teams went into the locker room with 25 points apiece.
A 10-9 edge for the home team gave Jax State a 35-34 lead at the first break with 15:46 on the clock. The Blue & Gold regained control 47-45 up to the 9:32 mark of the second half after an and-one opportunity by Fernandez with the extra coming after the timeout. The back-and-forth affair continued into the final media break with both teams set at 54 points. The final buzzer sounded with 61 across the board to force extra time.
Fernandez drained a triple to begin the overtime period, however Jax State answered with a triple of its own. Seven-straight points followed for the hosts to widen the gap to 71-64 with 2:49 left. The OT run ended at 19-9 since the opening Fernandez three.
