Bouldin’s Blast Lifts Baseball to 5-4 Win Over Rider

NEWARK, Del. – Evan Bouldin hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the University of Delaware baseball team defeated Rider, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. The Fightin' Blue Hens improved their winning streak to three games and moved to 4-7 overall, while the Broncs slipped to 3-2.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

Bouldin led the UD offense with two hits and three RBI.
Sal Mineo had three singles out of the leadoff spot and scored a pair of runs.
Vincent Davis, LT Cockrill, and Harry Carr all added two base knocks.
Chase Deibler started on the mound and fired 3.0 shutout innings with one strikeout.
Ryan Pugh picked up his first win of the season with three strikeouts in 3.0 hitless innings of relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Hens jumped on the board first thanks to some aggressive baserunning from Mineo in the bottom of the first. He led off with a single and stole second. On a ground out to the pitcher, he took off for third and came home on a throwing error.
Mineo led off the third with another single and eventually came around to score on an RBI knock by Bouldin to give Delaware a 2-0 advantage.
Rider's offense came to life in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on five hits to take the lead.
A Carr RBI double in the bottom of the sixth scored Jeremy Wolf from first to chip into the deficit.
In the bottom of the seventh, Davis reached on a one-out single before Bouldin launched his third home run of the season over the left field wall to put the Blue Hens on top.
Pugh came out of the bullpen and allowed just two baserunners over the final three frames to close the door and seal Delaware's third-straight victory.

UP NEXT
The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
